Ethnic Minorities

Abstract

The chapter focuses on several major aspects of the ethnic minorities in China under the People's Republic. These include: policies on minorities from 1949 to the early twenty-first century, the definition of a "minority nationality", the economies of the ethnic minorities, population issues, religion, the question of Chinese national unity, and the impact of the ethnic minorities on China's international relations.
