Spirotnetry is the most commonly performed component of pulmonary or lung function testing. Spirometric tests assess the capacity and effectiveness of an individual's ability to move air in and out of the lungs - airflow and volume are the two key indices. For scientists, spirotnetry provides important information that can aid in the identification and management of respiratory diseases (as well as other diseases that may impact upon lung function and pulmonary gas exchange) and help risk-stratify individuals. This practical will provide exercise and sports science students with an applied guide to the measurement and interpretation of lung function, with a specific- focus on spirornetry.
