This paper is broadly concerned with the shifts in the Australian federal government's industry policy in relation to the textiles, clothing and footwear (TCF) industries. An overview of past federal government policies and reports about the industries that address direct assistance, tariff protection and quotas will be presented. The TCF Plan will be examined to show how government and business have attempted to deal with the reduction in tariffs and the restructuring process. While the plan has established many different schemes and programmes, the industries are still finding it difficult to survive.
