View more >This paper describes the results of the behavior characteristic for the joints of space trusses according to the shape formation by cable-tensioning. In the field of a shaping formation of space trusses at a special construction site, the cabletensioning techniques could be a fast and economical method for the erection of the space truss. In previous studies, through the analysis and experiments for the various structures types, it was investigated the behavior characteristic of shaping formation and the possibility of new techniques for constructing in the case of SCST(Single Chorded Space Truss). In this paper, to simulate approximately the behavior of a pyramidal unit structure in a prototype cable-tensioned and shaped space truss, it was performed the load-displacement test for the full size scaled pyramidal unit, and for the simple beam structure, concentrated load was applied in ball typed joint. It was to confirm the advanced conclusions for the previous studies about the dome, hyper, and arch shaped space truss. And then, for the field of analysis, design, and construction in space truss, this study could be suggested the some further information for the nonlinear finite element analyses and the experiment in a space truss with the ball type joints. As a result, detailed understanding for the behavior characteristic of a ball typed joint is very significant in shaping analysis of space structure with cable-tensioning. By showing the behavior characteristic of joint test for pyramidal unit and beam structure, this study could be suggested the significance of joints for the prediction of shaping in practices.
