This chapter examines the employee involvement and voice (EIV) system at Delta Air Lines, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia (United States). Delta is currently the world’s second-largest airline in terms of passengers carried and has approximately 80,000 employees. The company is the oldest surviving American airline, has a long-established reputation as a peopleoriented employer, and operates what is probably the most highly developed and structured company-run EIV program in the United States. Relatively few of its domestic employees are covered under collective bargaining contracts, so the EIV system covers the great bulk of the workforce. Portions of the EIV system also cover international employees (about 10 percent of company employment).
