dc.description.abstractThis report is concerned with the pilot phase of the Years 1 to 10 Technology KLA Curriculum Development Project. The purpose of the curriculum development project is to design, develop and disseminate a Years 1 to 10 Technology Key Learning Area syllabus, sourcebooks and initial in-service materials for use in Queensland schools. The pilot phase extends over Term Two and Term Three, 2000. This report covers activity during the first of these terms, when 50 schools were engaged in applying the draft syllabus to planning, teaching and assessing units in the Technology Key Learning Area. In April, before the term commenced, up to three teachers from each school attended a two-day conference in Brisbane and were supplied with a copy of the draft syllabus, draft elaborations and CD-ROM. In the final version of the curriculum documents, the draft elaborations will form part of the sourcebook guidelines, but for the purpose of the pilot, the draft elaborations were provided without the explanation of their purpose and context. The evaluation was concerned with the appropriateness, effectiveness and efficiency of the draft materials in a range of classroom and school contexts. Three approaches were used: interviews with teachers in the pilot schools, interviews with school administrators in the pilot schools and a questionnaire survey of pilot teachers.
