Recognising that different kinds of physical environment have their own policy and planning challenges, the case studies are divided into three sections, depending on whether the context is a `natural area', `rural area' or 'urban area'. The editors then effectively `book-end' each of these sections with a general introduction to the pertinent issues, and a concluding chapter on `questions and issues'. The book as a whole commences with a general introduction to planning and policy in Australia and New Zealand, and is wrapped up by a chapter of overall conclusions.
