An overview of realism in the study and practice of international relations. The chapter examines the overall approach known as realism, and explores the key differences between types of realism in international relations theory. Despite its theoretical flaws, the chapter argues that realism will persist as a powerful critique of liberal and other purposive projects for radical change in global politics.
