The ability to perceive vibration has been shown to be a good predictor of the long-term complications of diabetic peripheral neuropathy. This study estimated the predicted costs and complications to the NHS associated with reduced compared with normal vibration detection, using a quantitative sensory testing device. It concludes that identifying people with reduced vibration detection would enable preventive care to be targeted at those patients, potentially saving the NHS valuable resources and improving health outcomes. The ability to perceive vibration has been shown to be a good predictor of the long-term complications of diabetic peripheral neuropathy.
