    Abstract
Five microsatellite loci were isolated and characterized for the southern pygmy perch, Nannoperca australis, a regionally vulnerable Australian freshwater fish. Screening of 22 individuals from southeastern Australia revealed four to 15 alleles per locus, and observed levels of heterozygosity ranged from 0.09 to 0.45. All loci conformed to Hardy-Weinberg proportions and were in linkage equilibrium.Five microsatellite loci were isolated and characterized for the southern pygmy perch, Nannoperca australis, a regionally vulnerable Australian freshwater fish.
