    Abstract
This work studies the lossless intensity-dependent dispersion in coherently prepared multi-state atoms using electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT). This study also describes the chain ? atoms, identifies realistic conditions for observing chain ? atoms, presents extended results where propagation effects are taken into account and explores the prospects for using such atoms in novel quantum devices. This work studies the lossless intensity-dependent dispersion in coherently prepared multi-state atoms using electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT).
