VILIP-1 belongs to the subfamily of Visinin-like proteins with its members VILIP-1, -2, -3, hippocalcin and neurocalcin d which have been implicated in the modulation of a variety of intracellular signalling cascades. VILIP-1 has recently been characterized in more detail and an involvement in cyclic nucleotide signalling has been demonstrated. Thus, similar to other NCS proteins such as GCAPs and neurocalcin d, VILIP-1 can influence the activtiy of guanylyl cyclase enzymes and the cGMP-signalling system of neurons in the nervous system.VILIP-1 belongs to the subfamily of Visinin-like proteins with its members VILIP-1, -2, -3, hippocalcin and neurocalcin d which have been implicated in the modulation of a variety of intracellular signalling cascades.
