The production of a framework connecting leadership and learning is the central purpose of this article. The framework is synthesised from a selection of five recent research reports, all of which concentrate on aspects of leadership which are influential in affecting learning. The need for a framework responds to increasing concerns amongst school leaders that their work has been dominated by management issues rather than what it takes to improve student learning.
