This chapter introduces an innovative research supervision approach developed during the last six years, which received a national Carrick Institute Citation Award for outstanding contributions to student learning in 2006 in Australia. This approach aims to promote a balanced approach to research learning among honours and postgraduate students. The first part of the chapter outlines the theoretical foundations of the supervisory approach. The second part introduces briefly the major aspects of the two tools that support its implementation: a) the Academic Life Balancing Skills (ALBS) program nominated for a Griffith University Teaching Award, and b) the candidate's and supervisor's logbooks.en_US
