    Abstract
In this symposium, I argue that the use of home language needs to be viewed as a valuable resource for teachers in Indigenous schools in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. For students to be able to negotiate meaning and mathematical concepts in Kriol can help facilitate their mathematical learning as well as demonstrate an explicit valuing of indigenous cultures and heritage. In this symposium, I argue that the use of home language needs to be viewed as a valuable resource for teachers in Indigenous schools in the Kimberley region of Western Australia.
