    High-performance (HP) sport has emerged as an umbrella term that captures the enormity, growth and pervasive nature of elite sports on the global scene. This special issue of European Sport Management Quarterly focuses on ‘Managing High-Performance Sport’ by including a number of articles that highlight the breadth of this topic. In this introduction, we address definition challenges and the evolution of HP sport. Then, we offer insights on the contributions of the articles presented and the ways they assist in expanding the theoretical and practical boundaries of HP sport.
