This chapter examines the role music can play in building and sustaining a community and is part of a larger study examining the role of active music making in building resilience in preschool-aged children. This group, Aria Angels, represents one of a number of sites in the greater Brisbane region in Queensland, Australia, where this research has been conducted and is ideally suitable for a discussion of how music can build a community. I have drawn on my experiences as observer, researcher, and teacher in studio and classroom settings to explore how this group has used music education to achieve the program goal of building a community through music education.
