    Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death among Australians. Creating and delivering a world-class cardiac surgery service in a cost-effective way is the principle goal of health care organisations and managers. Establishing a new health care service is a unique opportunity and requires detailed planning and implementation. Managing change is pivotal to establishing a new patient-focused health care service, and should be coupled with effective communication and teamwork among all stakeholders.
