The purpose of this chapter is to explore the key concepts and values, principles and processes, learning theories and practical strategies of GULL – the Global University for Lifelong Learning. Illustrating how GULL implements inclusive pathways to self-directed and sustainable learning and community development with a case example and model, we argue that GULL, in partnership with community agencies, makes a valuable contribution to theory and practice for sustainable community development. We then use participatory approaches to reflect on the learning outcomes of participants – and of ourselves – in events of the Action Learning and Action Research Association (ALARA) that share GULL’s concepts, values, principles and processes, such as its world congresses, other conferences and ALARA ‘conversations’ held in Brisbane, Australia.
