Day-to-day hassles may be stronger predictors of psychological maladjustment than negative life events. Previous measures of daily hasslesare critiqued. An initial focus group was conducted. Items were collapsed and tested on two samples. Items that reflected infrequent daily hassles and gender bias were removed. principal axis factoring with an Oblique rotation yielded two robust factors: Family Hassles and Peer Hassles, each containing five items. The two-factor structure was confirmed with the second sample using structural equation modelling. the two factors showed high alpha reliabilities. Daily hassle scores were significantly, positively correlated with self-reported anxiety and depressive symptoms.
