It is undeniable that technology is changing the landscape of health care with unprecedented access to information for consumers and an upsurge in availability of health and wellness applications (apps). Apps offer people the opportunity to seek support for a range of healthcare behaviours such as the management of chronic conditions, connecting people with a health professional, skill development and monitoring aspects of health such as medication, pregnancy or fitness. At a first glance, the development of health related apps offer a promising way to support the translation of evidence into the hands of the people who are best able to put it into practical use. However, it is important to consider the opportunities and the points of risk for occupational therapy and the health consumer.
