dc.description.abstract‘World Scapes’ An exhibition by Paula Payne Exhibition runs from October 17th to October 21st 2017 Preview Wednesday 18th October Artist talks and closing event 21st October Paula Payne explores a personal visual language through an ongoing engagement with paint. In this exhibition, the iconography of landscape and responses to environment are explored. Meaning can be symbolic and elusive, yet evoke narratives. Myth and memory are embedded in environments and may present as beautiful or threatening, revealing stories of global and personal experiences. World Scapes is non-prescriptive in its intention and Payne & Cook join in an explorative dialogue and collaboration - they welcome the viewer to take part in the activity. Paula Payne’s works engage landscape as an emotive text to express narratives both personal and global. The information highway provides stories from cultures and histories, hard to digest at times, yet a plethora of possibilities for image production. Images of landscape reveal that human history is an ongoing modification of the environment to be considered. Payne continues to search and select images and narratives to inspire works. Recent paintings engage with ideas of a global collections, seed-banks, architectural ruins and weather. Paula Payne 2017
