Background: This exhibition of lens based media by the Cuban American artist, Ana Mendieta (1948-1985), drew out her eco-feminist inclinations. It included photographs and a film from her most well known Silueta Series as well as the full suite of photographs from the Rupestrian sculpture series.
Research Contribution: The exhibition was designed to complement the survey show of Indigenous artist, Dale Harding, indicating the deep connection to land shared by the two artists. The show was favourably reviewed in various national and international journals: Vault, Artguide, Art Asia Pacific and Eyeline. In association with the exhibition there were a number of public programs. The exhibition draws on my research funded by an ARC Discovery grant and previously published in an award winning book, Visualizing Feeling: Affect and the Feminine Avant-garde.
