Political Chronicles: Queensland July to December 2007
Abstract
The second half of 2007 saw many earlier patterns repeated: a squabbling Liberal-National Coalition Opposition directionless and changing leaders yet again in the face of a commanding Labor government; public policy problems in child safety; and gaffes from ill-disciplined ministers and MPs. But this period will be best remembered for the departure, after more than nine years in office, of Premier Peter Douglas Beattie and the ascension of Anna Bligh as Queensland's first female Premier. The second half of 2007 saw many earlier patterns repeated: a squabbling Liberal-National Coalition Opposition directionless and changing leaders yet again in the face of a commanding Labor government; public policy problems in child safety; and gaffes from ill-disciplined ministers and MPs.
