dc.description.abstract• Research Background (including field, context and research question): Boulia Shire Council is a small remote Council located in far western Queensland, 3 hours south of Mt Isa. Boulia Shire Council wishes to develop a Regional Community Hub that would reorganise the services being proposed (administration, library, post office, etc.) whilst improving internal flows and relationships with the public. After the community/staff consultation conducted by Mead Perry group, the next stage concerned the feasibility studies. The Council received grant funding to undertake the later. This is what this research was about. • Research Contribution (including innovation and new knowledge): This proposal concerns the construction of a new Regional Community Hub in place of the existing Boulia Shire council building. The program includes the council offices, the library, the post office and a suite of space to accommodate QGAP, Centrelink and Pitta Pitta offices. The research investigated the relevance of the brief, the response to climatic conditions and the other functions that could potentially be added to the project. Based on consultation with the main stakeholders, the outcome of the research is a design proposal which is innovative in terms of energy efficiency and water management. The proposal itself is creating new knowledge that will contribute to empower stakeholders to better decision-making. • Research Significance (evidence of excellence): The Council praised our work and is now starting the consultation phase with the residents. The level of excellence is also demonstrated in their use of our documents for seeking fundings.
