This special issue is focused on the opportunities and challenges in the rapidly growing area of connected and automated vehicles (CAVs)—exploring research issues in the planning, design, operation, and management of transportation systems. New traffic flow models, data analysis, computational frameworks, and network control approaches are needed to obtain insight into CAVs and understand their impacts.
