For some decades now, scholars interested in the function of media outlets that sit ‘on the margins’ (Rodriguez, 2015) have belonged to a range of complementary but diverse disciplines – primarily communication and media studies, but also sociology, social movement studies, politics, cultural studies, history, literature and creative arts.
