Research Background:
This performance was based on extensive background research of this hitherto unknown composer’s work, which has only very recently been published. The re-discovery of his guitar music in the last few years is highly significant since the original repertoire for guitar in this romantic style is very limited. This project was an exciting opportunity to give the modern day premiere of this 5 minute gem for guitar trio. Research Contribution: My research in this area contributes to the expansion of the guitar trio repertoire as it represents the first modern day performance (it is not known 100% whether the work was played in the composer’s lifetime, though there is no known record of any public performance) of a rare high-quality original romantic work. The work was rehearsed and prepared based on mine ( and my colleagues’) artistic research of the romantic guitar style and translating this onto the modern classical guitar. The performance itself pushed the boundaries of this style using modern Australian guitars. Research Significance: This was a significant performance with international colleagues of an important hitherto unknown work for guitar trio. Rehearsals took place in Brisbane and the performance was held in front of a capacity audience in the Ian Hanger Recital Hall, Griffith University. The rehearsals and performance were well documented and have been shared extensively online and with Rebay researchers internationally.
