Background
This project was a continuation of my curatorial research work in developing new repertoire for large guitar ensemble and presenting it in an innovative context. This concert featured the world premiere performance of a new work Lo Entra Em Um Bar by Padraig Parkhurst, alongside the world premiere of three new and significant arrangements of existing works adapted to large guitar ensembles, The concert also featured a number of other works with an emphasis on emerging Australian composers. The new arrangements were all commissioned for this concert, namely Joe Fallon’s arrangement of the first movement of Pavel Fischer’s string quartet “Mad Piper”, Duncan Gardiner’s arrangement of his own quartet work “Euoggera” and Ben Ellerby’s arrangement of “Highway Star” by Deep Purple. Contribution This research again contributes substantially to the hitherto limited repertoire for professional-level large guitar ensemble, through the creation, rehearsal and performance of new work and the re-conception and arrangement of existing works. Featuring as performers two large ensembles (Riverside and Open/Young Con Ensemble) plus two guitar-based quartets ( Euoggera and Jacaranda Quartet) in this concert opened up new possibilities for collaboration amongst the performers and provided a new context for existing repertoire alongside premiere performances. Significance This concert featured 34 of Queensland’s best guitarists and was significant not only for the new repertoire it created, but also for the performance outcome to a capacity audience in the Ian Hanger Recital Hall, QCGU and widespread social media and online coverage of the performances. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ovaezewg4j8i0mv/AAAb33Brp9ErSxz87D_yMEWAa/720P%20for%20Facebook?dl=0&subfolder_nav_tracking=1 https://vimeo.com/tangiblemediavideo/review
