    Abstract
In August 2019 a group of us, more than 80 scientists and industry practitioners from Australia, China, the U.S.A and the UK, gathered together at the beautiful Gold Coast and held our 1st International Conference on Sustainable Technologies for a Blue Planet (Aug. 3–6, 2019). Little did we know at the time that soon a conference like that has become impossible for a long while, and probably will never go back to be the same, for better or worse. In August 2019 a group of us, more than 80 scientists and industry practitioners from Australia, China, the U.S.A and the UK, gathered together at the beautiful Gold Coast and held our 1st International Conference on Sustainable Technologies for a Blue Planet (Aug. 3–6, 2019).
