dc.description.abstractFloating liquid marbles, small non-wetting droplets on carrier liquids, can potentially serve as micro- sensors and reactors for biochemical purposes. Their automated trapping is essential for wide applications in the technology platform of lab-in-a-marble. We developed a dielectrophoretic trapping method for non-stationary floating liquid marbles on free water. By investigating dynamic behaviors behind the marble trapping process, a two-dimensional modified analytical model was formulated and a governing equation of successful marble trapping via energy balance scaling analysis was further generalized. It aims to facilitate a better understanding of controlled marble manipulation and dielectrophoretic handling of soft matters.
