It has long been recognised that the spectrum of clinical findings in pemphigoid diseases includes various nonbullous manifestations. (1) These include urticated plaques, eczematous areas, papulonodules and figurate lesions. These have been referred to as prebullous pemphigoid, reflecting the view that they represent a prodrome of bullous pemphigoid. However, there is an emerging consensus that there is a distinct nonbullous variant of pemphigoid. (2) A review of recent studies suggests that only a minority of patients with a nonbullous presentation progress to frank blistering, justifying the term nonbullous pemphigoid. Some patients with nonbullous pemphigoid present with pruritus alone, and these individuals may benefit from therapies known to be beneficial in other forms of pemphigoid. (3)en_US
