dc.description.abstractBackground: This session will be focused upon controversies in psychiatric research and practice from critical evidence-based perspectives to encourage discussion and improvement of clinical practice. Objectives: Attendees will gain knowledge in the CANMEDS domains of medical expert (applying critical psychiatric expertise to practice), scholar (evidence-based review of research and practice) and health advocate (application of critical evidence-based knowledge to care). Methods: The presenters will critically review three key areas of controversy in psychiatric research and practice, to encourage discussion, reflection and application to practice. Conclusions: Critical, evidence-based review of controversies in psychiatric research and practice is accessible, practical and applicable to clinical care.
