Abstract

Linked Article: Eisemann et al. Br J Dermatol 2016; 174: 778–785. Unlike other cancers, including melanoma, the burden caused by basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is not known in many countries because of varying registration practices. In Australia, for example, the country with the highest incidence of melanoma in the world, BCC and SCC are not notified to the state- and territory-based registries, and so incidence estimates are based on surveys or analyses of treatment costs.
