In many Pacific island countries, including Fiji, the ongoing management of water systems in rural communities is the responsibility of community members. This is, in large part, because of the inability of government or the private sector to provide water supply services to the many small and remote communities that make-up the bulk of the population. In many Pacific island countries, including Fiji, the ongoing management of water systems in rural communities is the responsibility of community members. This is, in large part, because of the inability of government or the private sector to provide water supply services to the many small and remote communities that make-up the bulk of the population.
