Research Background: First solo exhibition and was given free range of the space to explore my practice without hesitations. I wanted to test the extremities of hyper-stimulation and its affect within installation art investigating strategies in disrupting the subject’s perceptual experience. Research Contribution: The installation included projected live video feeds of its space, interactive sound sculptures and digital interfaces all overlapping one another. These ideas (although ideas I have been playing with up to this point for some time) prompted the foundations of shifting towards the significance of trauma, narrative and interpretation in my research. Research Significance: This exhibition significantly contributed to a new understanding of my research and possibilities of methodology. As mentioned, it awakened me to that fact that my original research question and line of inquiry were significantly being misdirected. Now at the end of my candidature my content revolves around the ideas which arose out of this experimental exercise. The opportunity to test my ideas with a responded public audience was valuable. The gallery was actually a repurposed pub cellar (which relates to my methodology of personal narrative), but more importantly I could see a response to interaction outside of the typical gallery setting. Engagement was significantly more intense with interactive work.
