Statistics: What they tell us about Indigenous people in Australia
This paper presents a national profile of Indigenous people residing in Australia. While recognising that all data and statistics about Indigenous people should be interpreted with care, this profile has been prepared for the Elders. It has been based on information from the recent population census from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). Because it is the first such profile to be prepared, the main emphasis has been on explaining Australia’s Indigenous population from the national perspective, although some information on the State and Territory level has also been included.
