dc.description.abstractA new chromone, 5,7-dihydroxy-2 -(hydroxymethyl)-6,8-dimethyl-chromen- 4-one, named melachromone, together with 12 known compounds, including chromones, anthraquinone, flavonoids, flavonoid glycosides, benzene derivatives, ellagic acids and terpenes, were isolated from the leaves of Melaleuca cajuputi Powell. Their structures were characterised by spectroscopic methods.
