Setting achievement goals for gifted students can occur at a relatively surface level with attendant superficial outcomes or it can occur at what I describe as a 'deep', challenging and rewarding level. Sustained development, improvement and quality outcomes result from the latter. I will distinguish and exemplify 'surface' and 'deep' goals and introduce a new approach I have been utilising to measure goal achievement.Setting achievement goals for gifted students can occur at a relatively surface level with attendant superficial outcomes or it can occur at what I describe as a 'deep', challenging and rewarding level.
