Azopyridinium-Containing Pseudorotaxanes and Hydrazopyridiniun-Containing Catenane

This paper reports the construction of supramolecular systems in which the some of the molecular components resident within interlocked catenanes and rotaxanes have been modified such that they contain units that are responsive to light. It was anticipated that these systems would act as prototype light-activated molecular machines.
