We argue in earlier and Later chapters of this book that effective information and communication technologies arc pivotal in supporting relationship-based procurement strategies. This chapter provides an insight into how the use of advanced IT and relationship-based approaches arc critical in enhancing communication effectiveness on construction projects. We draw upon evidence presented by us more fully in a research report that investigated the National Museum of Australia project as a case study of the project alliancing approach. The case study compared business-as-usual and relationship-based approaches and included a substantial investigation into the role IT played in improving project-based business relationships and vice versa (Peters et al. 2001, Part B).
