Weaving Together Disparate Threads: Future Perspectives for Research and Research Education

Abstract

A number of commonalities are evident in the writing on research and research education. There are also several disparate threads that pervade the discussion. Conflicts around definition, the relative status of research in international contexts, dissemination and format of research outcomes and the management of future perspectives for the discipline remain unresolved. This chapter seeks to draw together those threads and seeks to provide some potential platforms for approaches to the future of music research in performance and pedagogy.
