The world is characterised bya mosaic of borders. They demarcate differences in space and enable governments to make sense of that space and organise human behaviour and movement (Popescu 2013). Yet, they also create political, economic, social and cultural divisions. It is critical to overcome these divisions to deal with some of the major challenges, such as climate change, we are faced with this centurary. There is growing recognition of the need for collaboration and co-operation across borders to overcome the divisions they create.The world is characterised bya mosaic of borders.
