    Abstract
The successful and long-term treatment of multirooted teeth with attachment loss into the furcation area, has always been one of the greatest challenges to dentists. Root resection may be an option. The purpose of this literature is to present the indications and contraindications for root resection as well as the factors for the selection of the suitable cases. Moreover endodontic and occlusial considerations are mentioned. Last but not least the clinical stages of the technique are described. In this way the clinician can evaluate the treatment approach that would provide a long-term benefit to the patient. The successful and long-term treatment of multirooted teeth with attachment loss into the furcation area, has always been one of the greatest challenges to dentists.
