Academic studies examining travel to destinations with a culinary appeal find a significant relationship between the food image of a place and the intention to visit. Food is recognized as an important factor in a tourist's experience of a destination, leading to marketing efforts by many governments to attract this special interest group. This research note presents a review of definitions of food-related tourism and presents two different views of the relative importance of food (or wine) as a motivation to travel to a particular destination.Academic studies examining travel to destinations with a culinary appeal find a significant relationship between the food image of a place and the intention to visit.
