Development of fluorescent core/shell colloidal particles based on polystyrene spheres core and Rhodamine B shell

A simple andreproducible method was developed to synthesise novel fluorescent core/shellcolloidal particles. Using a polystyrene sphere core, Rhodamine B offluorescent organic dye molecules were entrapped as the polystyrene shellresulting in core/shell particles of 310 nm diameter. The fluorescentcore/shell colloidal particles were characterised by electron microscopy imagesand fluorescence emission spectrum. Fluorescence intensity demonstrated thatdye molecules formed as shell on polystyrene spheres. These fluorescentcore/shell colloidal particles could be used in optoelectronic devices orsensors. For this reason, solid film was fabricated both in the presence andabsence of colloidal spheres. Fluorescence was enhanced in the presence ofcolloidal spheres.
