Abstract
Chapter 16 investigates the impact of COVID-19 on the sport tourism sector. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, global sport tourism had been growing for several decades and at a rapid pace. This chapter looks back at this growth before moving towards the sudden shock of the current global health crisis. The flow on effects, including social and economic disruptions from the closure of global travel, are explored, and future challenges for the field of sport tourism, post-pandemic, are outlined.
