Children residing in orphanages are at heightened risk of abuse and exploitation, yet little is known about the barriers affecting children from disclosing these experiences. In the current study, we sought to address this gap by exploring the perspectives of stakeholders who had experience responding to orphanage-based child victimization in Cambodia. The stakeholders were interviewed about their experiences and their perspectives were analyzed via qualitative thematic analysis to identify barriers preventing children from disclosing their experiences of victimization, and adults from reporting suspicions of these offenses. The findings indicated that there are complex barriers impeding disclosure and reporting. A community-centered, capacity-building approach has significant potential to facilitate disclosure and reporting, and thus help to protect highly vulnerable children from further victimization.
