Abstract

A major aspect of the growth and expansion of the Chinese economy, particularly in the in the last 15 years, has been the Chinese government’s globalization policies, driving massive growth in Overseas Foreign Direct Investment (OFDI), which has been characterized not only by speed and scale, but increasingly by the diversity of destination countries and industry sectors. However, reportedly high failure rates that represent a significant impediment to economic growth highlight the need to pursue a greater understanding of the causes of these failures and to identify and understand both the sources of influence and the nature of the factors that impinge on the likelihood of success.
