Abstract
In this chapter, the author considers opportunities to create an integrated approach to disaster risk management and climate change adaptation. Policy responses focused on disaster risk management and climate change adaptation are linked in a number of ways. Participants at the workshops agreed that there was a need to improve interagency communication and collaboration. The idea of enhancing community engagement and communication was a strong underlying theme. There was a general feeling that there was an over-reliance on the emergency services, so a community engagement strategy was needed to inform people about the risks and empower them to build up their own resilience.
